A 500 square meter flat designed by Adolf Loos can be found near the Urania in
Vienna. Long thought to be lost, it was rediscovered some time ago. Architect Ralf Bock, who has been studying the work of Adolf Loos for over two decades, is helping to restore the jewel to its former glory as part of a restoration project carried out in close cooperation with the Federal Monuments Office.
Loos as a bridge builder between tradition and contemporary lifestyle has not been seen for a long time in the age of 20th century abstraction. The survey of the Löwenbach flat has made this clearly visible. Loos' far-sightedness and his approach of uniting apparent opposites instead of extolling ideological one-
sidedness should serve as a model for the architecture of the 21st century.
