Münichholz+
An urban district development concept
for Steyr – Münichholz
In cooperation with: Modul5 GmbH; DnD Landschaftsplanung ZT KG;
Rosinak & Partner ZT GmbH; Larix Engineering GmbH;
Commissioned by WAG and the City of Steyr, we were able to work on the Steyr–Münichholz district development study under the coordination of Modul 5 and together with an excellent team of specialist planners.
The district’s special history and its unique landscape setting make this area truly distinctive. It was originally planned as a workers’ settlement for the Hermann Göring Works during the Nazi regime by Herbert Rimpfl and built between 1939 and 1944.
The uniform design of the house types, combined with their varied arrangement between block developments with clearly defined street spaces and row buildings set within the generous green courtyards, characterizes this district.
The planning team’s approach focused on identifying existing qualities, improving the current fabric, transforming it to meet today’s needs, and further developing the remaining potential derived from the analysis of the existing structures.
